This ride will provide a great variety of scenery including the Napier Township, Marine Parade coastline, Tutaekuri River, orchard, farmland and wineries. Allow 5 hours for this incredible journey.

Departing the port village of Ahuriri you will cycle around the port to the Napier CBD, a world renowned Art Deco treasure. Enjoy the unique facades of these beautiful buildings before continuing south, following Marine Parade with spectacular views across the sea to Cape Kidnappers.

After travelling approximately 12kms you turn inland at Awatoto and follow the trail along the Tutaekuri River stopbank to the suburb of Taradale. The countryside is very typical of the Hawke’s Bay as you overlook orchards, vineyards and market gardens whilst sharing the trail with wandering cows.

This twilight guided cycle is perfect for those short on time.  The route is approx. 16kms on flat, off-road cycle trail and includes a visit to a winery, abundant bird-life around the Estuary and a refreshing drink at a local pub in the bustling, historic port village of Ahuriri.  The tour operates daily from 4.00pm - 7.00pm during the daylight saving months of October through to March.  Experience lots of this beautiful region's highlights in the company of your knowledgeable local guide.

Your twilight cycle starts at 4.00pm at the Takaro Trails base at 9 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri, Napier.  We recommend you arrive at 3.45pm to enable an 'on time' departure.  You will first be set up on your bike and be given a safety briefing by your guide before cycling the short distance to the National Tobacco Building, one of New Zealand's most photographed buildings with its distinctive Art Deco style.  Now home to the Tony Bish Urban Winery we make a visit to sample the chardonnay made onsite.  Joining the cycle trail we then meander approx 10kms through a low-lying wetlandarea that was all part of a large tidal inlet before the 1931 earthquake.  The trail continues through sheep farming country before completing the 16km loop back to Ahuriri.  The tour ends with a well-deserved drink on the deck of a waterside bar where you can enjoy views of the sun setting over the water before returning to base at 7.00pm.

Walk through New Zealand's oldest prison! Listen to a 50 minute self guided audio tour of Napier Prison while inspecting the vacant prison cells and deserted exercise yard. Learn the history and feel the oppressive atmosphere of the hanging yard, the solitary confinement and the death row cells. Hear the tales of Australasia's richest drug baron, numerous escape attempts, the ominous Eye Eater, and the graveyard.

Take your time walking through the empty halls and enjoy several photo opportunities that are great for the family!

Opening in 1862, Napier Prison is New Zealand's oldest penal complex

Begin your tour at the front gate and enter through the prisoner-built wall and walk through the Visiting Area where family members could see their loved ones. Take a look at the The Pound and see what solitary confinement meant in the 1900s, and visit the Detox Room where inmates would be disinfected and begin their new life behind bars. Next, step through the Courtyard where the Shower Block, Toilets, and Mess Hall are located. Learn about their meager meals and the few recreational activities available. As you enter the living areas, you'll witness the living conditions that inmates were subjected to, see how they left their mark on the Prison, and learn about the Earthquake that leveled Napier City. You'll make your way through the back of the Prison where you'll learn about the Graveyard and the prisoners that remain here. Finally, around the Cleaning Building, you'll visit the ominous Hanging Yard where several inmates met their end.

This audio guided tour allows you to take your time (or skip) certain parts of the Prison. The tour allows you to read extra information and take great photo opportunities along the way.

Join this wine tour for an afternoon of relaxing and good wine!
Enjoy a visit to four spectacular wineries before concluding the day with complimentary wine, cheese and biscuits at a private, exclusive gazebo/viewing platform with 360 panoramic views of Hawkes Bay.

You will be picked up from your accommodation at approximately 1pm. You will be transported in a relaxing 9-seater, air conditioned 4 wheel drive tour van.

From there we will head off to the first winery which will be Church Road Winery. Once we arrive we will enter the cellar door for a sample of 4 wines. Which will include a local champagne.

From Church Road we will travel a short distance to the next winery, Mission Estate, New Zealand's oldest winery established in 1851. I will conduct a mini tour of the magnificent colonial style villa followed by a tasting of 6 of their wines.

We then travel out to the Esk Valley for a tasting at Esk Valley Estate. Monday to Friday and during harvest season I am able to conduct a tour of the wine making facility. From Esk Valley Estate we continue through the picturesque Esk Valley to Linden Estate.

At Linden Estate we taste an extensive range of wines predominately made from grapes your guide personally planted 15 years ago. From the winery we travel out into the vineyard and your guide will give a brief explanation about grape growing & vineyard management.

The tour finale is a drive up Seafields farms road to my panoramic viewing platform (660ft / 202m above sea level). At the platform your guide will provide complementary wine, cheese and biscuits whilst you take in the magnificent views of Hawkes Bay.

You will be returned to your pick up points at around 5:30pm.
