Complete your adventure through Rotorua with a traditional Maori "hangi" feast. You'll travel by coach to Tamaki Maori Village where your local guide will escort you on a cultural journey to the "marae" (Maori village), the life force of New Zealand's indigenous people. Take the opportunity to engage in an evening of local customs including a traditional Maori dinner feast.

Your journey through time unfolds when your coach travels to a pre-European village set deep within the forest, 15 minutes from Rotorua. Let this 3.5-hour tour and your imagination take over as your guide instructs you on the protocol for visiting the marae. A chief is selected, a song is learnt and the eerie cry of the welcome is heard before you enter the world of the proud warriors of the ancient Maori.

You will experience the powhiri (welcome ceremony) before you enter the village, with crackling open fires in front of traditional whare (houses). You'll hear traditional Maori instruments and watch the daily activities of days gone by. In the wharenui (meeting house), a Rangiatea culture group offers a powerful display of haka song and dance. Then, as new friendships are forged, dine on a traditional hangi feast, where the food is cooked slowly beneath the ground in earth ovens.

This is an amazing re-enactment based on actual events from history, with real characters, traditional arts and crafts, powerful song and dance while enjoying an authentic Hangi feast.

Enjoy a magical half-day tour to the Hobbiton Movie set, which was used for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and The Hobbit film series. Departing from Tauranga, discover the wonders of Middle Earth on this guided adventure. This small-group tour is limited to 11 travelers per booking and includes hotel/port pickup and drop-off.

Following pickup, you will take a scenic drive along the coast before heading inland and over the Kaimai ranges. You'll climb around 300 meters, and have the chance to observe spectacular panoramic views across the rich fertile farmland of the Waikato. The main industry in this region is dairy, but you might also see some horse breeding facilities as you make your way towards Middle Earth, passing typical New Zealand farms.

Upon arrival at Shires Rest Cafe, you'll be collected in the Hobbiton people mover and taken to Middle Earth via the 1250 acre sheep farm. Your expert guide will take you on a 2-hour journey through "The Shire", during which there will be ample photo opportunities at locations such as Gandalf's cutting, Bag End, Hobbit holes and the Green Dragon Inn. You will be told the story of how the remote set was discovered and you will even enjoy an ale or ginger beer inside the Green Dragon Inn at the end of the tour.

After shopping at the Shires Rest (at own expense), you will head back over the Kaimai range and make a stop at McLaren Falls, 190 hectares of pastoral and horticultural land set alongside Lake McLaren. You will take a 10 minute walk along a steam to view the picturesque waterfall.

Your final stop will be Mossop's honey. This is a family business that has been producing and packaging honey and products for over 60 years. There is an excellent live bee hive display and informative panels tell the story from beehive to honey pot.

Finally, you'll drive through Tauranga city, over the harbour bridge with a stunning view of the Mount before the tour concludes.
